    • Served in Civil War, in battles of Chickamunga and Resaca. He fought at Buzzard's Roost Gap, Georgia, and was captured. He spent 3 months in the Andersonville prison. He was paroled and exchanged, returning on the Henry Ames, a luxury steamboat, to St. Louis. While on detached duty from the Signal Corp at Wartrace, Tenn., he was a guest at the home of the great Kentucky statesman, Cassius Clay. He was honorably discharged on June 14, 1865.
